When Steve David joined Miss Madison Racing 12 years ago, he made a promise to his new team and its fans that he would do everything in his power to turn the lovable - but losing - program into a winner.

"I have a deep-held belief the good folks of Madison, Indiana, know that beneath the deck of their boat is a winner just waiting to be released," David said in April of 2001. "I'm committed to driving the best I've ever driven and giving 100 percent of everything possible to my team."

Bayfair appeal decision delayed
The Oh Boy! Oberto/Miss Madison appeal over the final results from last week's Air National Guard H1 Unlimited Hydroplane Series race at San Diego will not be resolved for another 10 days, H1 Unlimited Chairman Sam Cole said Thursday. Oberto driver Steve David physically finished first at the Peters & May North American Championships on Mission Bay but a post-race inspection discovered that the Oh Boy! Oberto was guilty of a flagrant fuel violation. Officials then disqualified David and the win was awarded to Jimmy Shane in the U-5 Graham Trucking, which had physically finished second.
